Who we are
Mochi Tutor is made by Fortify Learning ("we", "us"). If you have any question about this policy, or want to review or delete information, email privacy@fortifylearning.com.
Mochi Tutor is made for children
Mochi Tutor is designed for children ages 4 to 14 and the parents who help them. We take children's privacy seriously and designed the app to collect as little as possible. Children don't need to give any personal contact information to use the app.
What we collect
- An anonymous account. The first time the app opens, it creates an account with a random ID. It isn't tied to a name or email. We use it only to save progress and keep the app working.
- Learning setup. During setup we ask whether a parent or a student is using the app, and the learner's age, school grade and interests (such as "dinosaurs" or "space"). We use these to choose lessons at the right level and on topics the learner enjoys.
- Learning progress. Lessons started and finished, answers given in lessons, rewards earned and choices made in the app (such as the mascot's outfit).
- Sign in with Apple (optional, for parents). A parent can save progress with Apple so it can be restored on another device. Apple gives us an account identifier and an email address, which can be a private relay address that hides the real one. We use it only for signing in. This option is meant for parents, not children.
- Problem reports (optional). If someone uses "Report a problem", we receive the note they write, a screenshot of the app, the device model, system and app version, and recent app activity logs. We use these only to fix bugs.
- Technical information. Like any internet service, our servers receive basic information such as the device's IP address and the app version when the app connects. We use it to deliver the service and keep it secure.
We do not collect names, contact details (except the optional Apple sign-in above), photos, voice recordings, precise location, contacts or advertising identifiers.
How we use information
- To create lessons that fit the learner's grade and interests, and to remember where they left off.
- To restore progress when a parent signs in with Apple.
- To fix problems, improve lessons and keep the service secure.
We do not use information for advertising, we do not build profiles for marketing, and we do not sell or rent information to anyone.
Who we share it with
We share information with service providers that help us run Mochi Tutor, for that purpose:
- Cloud hosting providers store accounts and progress.
- AI providers help write lessons, create pictures and produce the tutor's voice. They receive lesson details such as the grade, age, interests and lesson progress, not names or contact information.
- Internal team tools deliver problem reports to our team.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the safety of our users or the service.
Parents' rights
A parent or guardian can at any time:
- ask to see the information we hold about their child,
- ask us to delete it, and
- tell us to stop collecting it.
The quickest way to delete everything is in the app: open Profile and tap Delete account. This deletes the account and its information. If the account was saved with Apple, you can also disconnect Mochi Tutor in your device's Settings under Sign in with Apple.
For anything else, email privacy@fortifylearning.com. We may ask a few questions to confirm that you're the child's parent or guardian before we act, and we'll respond as soon as we can.
How long we keep information
We keep account and progress information while the account is in use, so learning can continue where it left off. When an account is deleted, we delete its information, except anything we need to keep for legal or security reasons. Problem reports are kept as long as they're useful for fixing problems.
Security
We use reasonable measures to protect information, including encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure.
Where information is processed
Mochi Tutor is run from the United States, and information is processed and stored there.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If we make important changes, we'll also mention them in the app.
